The Army’s Modernization

On reading The Times of April 20, I feel the public and perhaps the news media are not receiving facts in a timely manner.
On Jan. 20, Gen. Norman Schwarzkopf announced, “Today we are very confident that we have managed to neutralize the fixed (Scud) launchers.” Now information tells us U.S. intelligence greatly underestimated Hussein’s arsenal of missile launchers, chemical warheads and liquid nerve gas.
Having faith in the CIA and the Bush Administration, these new reports are disturbing.
On the same day we are informed that the space shuttle Atlantis was 600 feet short of the runway at touchdown. This had been heralded as a successful mission.
What are we, the taxpayers, to believe, and in which time frame--when the event occurs, or in hindsight?
