VALLEY SPORTS ROUNDUP : Pair of 2-Under-Par 69s Pace Hart High Golf Win

Mike Miller and Jason Gore each shot two-under-par 69 to lead the Hart High golf team to a five-man total of 363 and a first-place finish Monday in the Southern Section Western Regional tournament at Montebello Country Club.

In the Northern Regional at Olivas Park Golf Course in Ventura, Westlake edged Marmonte League foe Agoura, 384-385, to claim top honors. Rio Mesa was third at 389.

The top three teams from each of the five regionals advance to the Southern Section team finals May 13 at La Cumbre Country Club in Santa Barbara.

Rolling Hills finished eight shots behind Hart at 371, followed by Palos Verdes at 372. Other local teams that failed to qualify in the Western Regional include Notre Dame (384), Crespi (387), Alemany (415) and Burbank (426).

Miller and Gore tied for the low round of the day at Montebello. Teammate Chad Butler fired 73, followed by Shane O’Brien (75) and Jason Black (77). Hart was eight over par as a team.

Aaron Brady led Westlake with a two-over 74 at Olivas Park. Mark Bunt shot 76, Jerry Chang and Kevin Sorenson each shot 77, and John Talifer shot 80 for the Warriors, who won Southern Section titles in 1986 and 1987.

Ryan White, a junior transfer from Taft High, shot 72 to lead Agoura, the Marmonte League champion. He was followed by teammates Jeff Fahrenbruch (74), John Schweizer (77), Jason Tulley (79) and Clint Feekes (83).

Alan Stearns and Lawrence O’Neill each shot 75 for Rio Mesa.

HIGH SCHOOL BASEBALL

Crossroads 7, St. Genevieve 5--Sergio Ramos continued his 10-game hitting streak for St. Genevieve in a nonleague loss at Crossroads.

Tom Nickels and Mark Guardado doubled for St. Genevieve (8-9).

Hamilton 10, Harvard 3--Don Camacho had two hits for Harvard (8-13) in a makeup game of the Westside tournament at Hamilton.

Bell-Jeff 5, Fairfax 2--Luis Guzman had two doubles and Tony Cesta added two hits to lead Bell-Jeff in a makeup game of the Westside tournament at Fairfax.

Four pitchers combined on a two-hitter for Bell-Jeff (5-15).

HIGH SCHOOL SOFTBALL

La Reina 10, Cate 0--Michelle St. Pierre (12-1) threw a two-hitter, struck out 16 and walked two in a nonleague game at La Reina.

Jamie Kendig, Theresa Pasinosky, Erin Petrick and Jenny Brant each had two hits for La Reina (15-5).
