Most private golf clubs in the Chicago area remain closed to blacks and women a year after the PGA began examining exclusionary policies at courses serving as hosts to tournaments, a published report says.
Of 74 private country clubs in the metropolitan area, 10 have accepted blacks and 26 have allowed women the same status as male club members, the Chicago Tribune reported.
PGA tournaments can be played only at clubs allowing blacks and women as members. The Illinois legislature is considering a bill that would extend the state’s human rights laws to country clubs.
