Surfing Starts Today at Huntington Beach

Richie Collins of Newport Beach will be among the 250 surfers and bodyboarders competing at the $35,000 Body Glove Huntington Beach Open starting today at Huntington State Beach.

The five-day competition, sanctioned by the Professional Surfing Assn. of America, begins each day at 7:30 a.m. The bodyboarding finals are set for 1:30 p.m. Sunday, with the surfing finals immediately following.

The winner of the surfing division will receive $5,500 and the bodyboard winner will take home $1,250.

Also expected to compete are defending-champion Shane Beschen of San Clemente, Pat O’Connell of Laguna Niguel and Matt Archbold and Dino Andino of San Clemente.
