LONG BEACH — JoAnn Falletta, musical director of the Long Beach Symphony, has been appointed musical director and conductor of the 48-member Virginia Symphony, based in Norfolk.
The appointment, effective July 1, is not expected to affect her job in Long Beach, a position for which she recently signed a new three-year contract.
“I am excited and challenged by this appointment,” said Falletta, who also directs orchestras in Denver and San Francisco. “The orchestra has tremendous potential.”
