San Fernando Valley teams have won the City Section 4-A Division baseball title 20 years in a row, but a team from outside the region has been tabbed as the favorite this season.
Banning High has been seeded No. 1 in the 4-A playoffs, which begin Monday. The East Valley League champion--either Sylmar or Poly--has been seeded No. 2.
Wild-card games will be held Monday and the first round will be played Wednesday.
In the upper bracket, Monroe will play the winner of today’s game between Granada Hills and Kennedy; Poly will play Palisades; and Chatsworth will play Carson. In the lower bracket, San Fernando will play University; the loser of today’s Granada Hills-Kennedy game will play Birmingham; and San Pedro will play El Camino Real.
