SIMI VALLEY : Panel OKs Shops in Place of Restaurant

The Simi Valley Planning Commission will allow a developer to build a retail building rather than a restaurant at the northeast corner of Tapo and Alpine streets.
Last year, the commission approved a restaurant at the location, but property owner and developer Westwood Financial had difficulty finding a tenant. Due to a downturn in the economy, the developer was turned down by 40 restaurants ranging from the Velvet Turtle to fast-food franchises, his consultant Lloyd Maitland said Wednesday night.
The developer originally requested that the retail space be 9,000 square feet. The commission denied that request but directed city staff to approve a retail building of 7,500 square feet when the developer re-submits his plans.
