BOYS’ CITY SECTION VOLLEYBALL PLAYOFFS : Granada Hills Sweeps to Win Over Cleveland

Senior outside hitter Danny Asaoka had 20 kills as Granada Hills High needed just three games to dispose of Cleveland in a boys’ City Section 4-A Division quarterfinal match at Granada Hills.
The scores were 15-8, 15-8, 15-9.
Setter Josh Henderson had 47 assists and Ralph Courtney added nine kills for third-seeded Granada Hills (14-1).
In other 4-A matches:
Chatsworth d. Westchester, 15-8, 13-15, 15-10, 16-14--Chatsworth’s Dan Nash had 18 kills and Gene Urcan had 15 kills and nine blocks for the Chancellors (10-5).
University d. Taft, 11-15, 15-9, 15-11 8-15, 15-11--Aubry Miller had 30 kills and Casey Sheahan added 24 for Taft (14-5).
3-A DIVISION
Verdugo Hills d. Belmont, 15-10, 15-13, 12-15, 15-7--Kheng Lim (13 kills and eight aces), Soi Hoang (18 kills and five blocks) and freshman (Aram Garbiyan (11 kills, nine blocks and seven aces) led visiting Verdugo Hills (15-1).
Verdugo Hills was seeded fifth and Belmont fourth.
Van Nuys d. Birmingham, 15-13, 13-15, 15-2, 16-14--Brad Schultz had 32 kills and 14 blocks to lead visiting Van Nuys (11-4), seeded 11th, to an upset of third-seeded Birmingham.
Igor Frayman had 15 kills and 13 blocks for Van Nuys. Stanley Yu had 23 kills and Hye Kwon added 17 for Birmingham.
