WORLD IN BRIEF : BRITAIN : New Squad to Target Nazi War Criminals
- Share via
A special squad of detectives was directed to begin a search for Nazi war criminals now in Britain. A new War Crimes Act given formal approval by Queen Elizabeth II gives British courts jurisdiction over war crimes committed in Germany or German-occupied territory during World War II. The government is expected to make state files locked up for 45 years available to nine detectives assigned to the hunt by Scotland Yard. Investigators believe there may be enough evidence to bring the first of about 70 elderly suspects to trial next year.
