Bellflower : Oil From Buried Pipe Seeps to Surface of Woodruff Ave.

A corroded underground pipeline carrying oil from a Santa Fe Springs refinery to Long Beach burst Tuesday, spilling an unknown amount of crude.
Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Capt. John Anderson of the Lakewood station said that about 500 gallons of crude oil seeped to the surface of Woodruff Avenue, north of Walnut Street in Bellflower, covering about 300 yards of the avenue. But inspectors from Golden West Refining Co., based in Santa Fe Springs, said that about 80 gallons were spilled.
One inspector, who declined to be named, said there was a corrosion spot in the line. The spill, which was discovered at 8:30 a.m., was cleaned up by 5:30 p.m.
