INTERNATIONAL TRADE : Costa Mesa Firm Wins Contract for Satellite Equipment

Now that the country has reunified, Germany is trying to improve the communications systems linking the former East Germany and West Germany. And a Costa Mesa company is lending a hand in that process.
Satellite Technology Management Inc., a manufacturer of satellite hardware and software, said Monday that it has been awarded a $3.1-million contract to supply satellite equipment to Germany’s postal, telegraph and telephone agency.
The equipment--known as VSAT, or very small aperture terminal--will be used by the agency for its business operations and communications within the country. The satellites permit two-way communication between distant cities and towns and a central computer.
Under the terms of the agreement, STM will supply Germany’s Deutsche Bundespost with two central communication hubs and 300 remote stations throughout Germany.
STM President Emil Youssefzadeh, who founded the company in 1982, said the company’s European sales have grown steadily in the last three years. Last year, 55% of STM’s sales came from Europe and another 30% came from other foreign countries. The privately held company does not disclose specific sales figures.
