Dick Clark Productions Inc., a Burbank television production company, said net income for its fiscal third quarter that ended March 31 nearly tripled, to $1.33 million from $460,000 a year ago, while its revenue jumped 83% to $15.3 million from $8.36 million.
For the first nine months of its fiscal year, the company’s profit more than doubled, to $1.87 million from $830,000 a year earlier. Its revenue reached $29.5 million, up 31% from $22.5 million last year.
The gains triggered a surge in Dick Clark Productions’ stock, which jumped $2 a share, to $5.50, in over-the-counter trading last Wednesday after the figures were released. The stock closed Monday at $5.75 a share.
The company said most of the revenue increase was due to its “Super Bloopers and New Practical Jokes” series and “The Challengers” game show, as well as contributions from two new divisions that last year accounted for only a small percentage of total revenue: the American Bandstand Grill restaurant and a new talent booking agency.
Dick Clark Productions said the higher profit was mainly due to the “Super Bloopers” series and to the “American Music Awards Concert Series” in Japan.
