Maxtor Corp., San Jose, said it named Laurence R. Hootnick, 49, president and chief executive. He replaces James M. McCoy the company’s founder. McCoy will continue as chairman.

Hootnick was most recently president of Intel Corp.’s embedded controller and energy group in Santa Clara.
