California IN BRIEF : SAN BERNARDINO : Heart Recipient Leaves Hospital

Teen-age Reno heart transplant patient Ryan Maloy left a Southern California hospital Saturday, two weeks after he underwent his lifesaving operation. But he will not be returning to Reno soon. He and his mother will be staying near Loma Linda University Medical Center, where the operation took place, in case any problems arise. “He will have to be within a half-hour drive from the hospital for the next six months and then he’ll be allowed to go back home,” said hospital spokeswoman Anita Rockwell. Rockwell said a biopsy done Thursday turned up no signs that Maloy’s body is rejecting its new heart.
