Show For Hearing-Impaired Begins Malashock’s S.D. Run

Malashock Dance & Company will kick off a three-day San Diego engagement with a special performance Thursday for the hearing-impaired.

On the program at La Jolla’s Sherwood Auditorium is the world premiere of “Apologies from the Lower Deck” and the 1990 piece “Take This Waltz.”

The free performance is targeted only for the hearing-impaired, their family and friends, and American Sign Language students and is not open to the general public. It will have a signed interpreter for “Take This Waltz” and will feature deaf actor Don Baer interpreting and participating in “Apologies from the Lower Deck.”

The special performance is made possible by the city of San Diego and the San Diego Museum of Contemporary Art. No reservations are necessary.

Public performances of the Malashock Dance & Company program (without Baer or a signed interpreter) are Friday and Saturday a 8 p.m. and Sunday at 7 p.m. at the Sherwood Auditorium, sponsored by Sushi Performance Gallery in association with the San Diego Museum of Contemporary Art. A world premiere of Malashock’s “The Barn Owl Lingers” also will be included in the program.

Tickets for the public performances are $15. Call Sushi at 235-8466 for reservations.

Sherwood Auditorium is next to the San Diego Museum of Contemporary Art, 700 Prospect St. in La Jolla.
