Sony Corp. of America Chairman Masaaki Morita will join the board at Mellon Bank Corp., the Pittsburgh-based banking company announced.
Morita, 63, has led Sony’s United States operations since July, 1987, and also serves as deputy president of the Japanese parent company, Sony Corp.
Sony recently announced plans to assemble television tubes in New Stanton, east of Pittsburgh, employing up to 2,000.
The election of Morita increases the size of Mellon’s board to 21, including 18 outside members, Mellon said. He will assume the post July 16.
