Kentucky Official Wins GOP Race for Governor

Seven-term U.S. Rep. Larry J. Hopkins eked out a 1 percentage point victory in the Republican gubernatorial primary Tuesday, while Democratic Lt. Gov. Brereton Jones won his party’s nomination.
In the state’s most hotly contested GOP primary since 1967, the last time the Republicans captured the governorship, Hopkins edged out Lexington lawyer Larry Forgy. With 99% of the precincts reporting, Hopkins had 81,133 votes to 79,764 votes for Forgy, a difference of 1,369 votes.
