ANAHEIM — Ana Kristich of La Habra High School and Rob Johnson of El Toro were named the county’s athletes of the year Wednesday night at the spring meeting of the Orange County Athletic Directors Assn.
Johnson became the only player to earn all-county honors at two different positions after being selected as the county’s top quarterback this season. He was an all-county wide receiver as a junior.
Johnson earned 11 varsity letters in four seasons at El Toro, competing four years on the basketball and baseball teams and three years on the football team. He will attend USC on a football scholarship.
Kristich helped La Habra’s volleyball team win the State Division II championship as a middle blocker and was a starting forward on the school’s basketball team. She was named the most valuable player in the Freeway League by its basketball coaches.
Kristich, who maintained a 3.8 grade-point average at La Habra, will attend Cal State Northridge on a volleyball scholarship.
Both student-athletes received $500 scholarship awards from the Coca-Cola bottling company. The winners were selected by members of the media among nominations from the county’s 13 athletic leagues.
