Fighting the Traffic Signals

As a Valley resident for over 21 years and a resident of Warner Center for 12, I read with a great deal of interest Joy Picus’ remarks regarding no new hotels or buildings in Warner Center.
I sat in on a zoning hearing approximately four years ago when the matter of the Hilton Hotel on Canoga Avenue was before the commission. Besides the “heavy hitter” lobbyists, we heard from Picus’ man on zoning.
“Joy wants it,” he said. Her own citizen advisory committee was not in favor of the project, but was overruled.
Building the ugly Hilton Hotel squeezed onto the back of the Trillium property and the advent of the stand of signals on Canoga Avenue has made life for homeowners and renters across the street hell on wheels. We take our lives in our hands trying to get into or out of our driveways.
When the signals were first put up, I complained to my councilwoman’s office for relief. They said I should complain to the city traffic engineers. The engineer who designed the signals said they are correct--”Our driveways are not compatible with them.”
Go fight City Hall.
