Region : Groups Receive Grants

A number of community groups in the 5th Council District received grants from the City Council, said a spokeswoman for City Councilman Zev Yaroslavsky.
The grants include $500 each to the Pico-Robertson Storefront for seniors’ transportation, the Robertson Branch Library for materials on English as a Second Language, the Palms Recreation Center for after-school programs, the Palms Branch Library for a health encyclopedia, the Salvation Army for homeless trailers in Westwood, the Los Angeles Police Department Explorer Scouts at the Wilshire and West Los Angeles police stations, Fairfax High School for earthquake safety materials, the Freda Mohr Center, the Pacific-Asian Battered Women’s Center, the L.A. Free Clinic and the Poinsettia Recreation Center.
OASIS, an education program for senior citizens, received $200, and Project HEAVY West was allocated $2,500 for graffiti cleanup.
