Bronfeld Advances to Semifinals of Racquetball Tournament

Top-seeded Mike Bronfeld moved into the semifinals of Racquetball World’s Summer Shootout by defeating Anaheim’s Robert Gaul, 15-7, 15-6, on Saturday. Bronfeld, of Santa Barbara, will face fourth-seeded Craig Lane of Santa Ana, who advanced with a 15-5, 15-10 victory over Kevin Watson of Studio City.
The other semifinal will pit second-seeded Aaron Embry of Escondido against third-seeded Andy Gross of West L. A. Embry took Brad Fenton of Costa Mesa, 15-7, 15-13, and Gross bested Craig Ballard of Santa Ana, 15-3, 15-4.
Sandy Robson of Chicago justified her No. 1 seeding by romping past Angela Pellegrino of Las Vegas, 15-1, 15-1, in the women’s quarterfinals. Her semifinal opponent will be fourth-seeded Terri Hokanson of Claremont, who beat Chau Phan of Chatsworth, 15-1, 15-2.
In the other quarterfinals, Debbie Tisinger of Moorpark beat Jennifer Sparks of Westlake Village, 15-6, 15-8, and Lavonne Wilson of Reseda defeated Dina Moreland of Claremont, 7-15, 15-12, 11-10.
Men’s and women’s semifinal matches are scheduled this morning at 10:30. The the women’s final will start at 1:30 p.m. and the men’s final an hour later.
