THE WINE LIST
The 24 selections on Carrots’ wine list were chosen by wine merchant Barry Herbst of the Wine Reserve in Glendale, a longtime wine buff.
Herbst has listed some good values--1989 Daume Chardonnay, $16; 1988 Hess Select Cabernet Sauvignon, $19.75--as well as hard-to-find older wines such as 1986 Forman Chardonnay, $48, and 1985 Caymus Cabernet Sauvignon, $45. Herbst will add some half-bottles as well as a dry Gewurztraminer to accompany the spicy dishes and a complex Pinot Noir for richer dishes.
Best values on the list, in terms of price and the way they complement the food: 1989 Frog’s Leap Sauvignon Blanc, $14, and 1988 Ridge Sonoma County Zinfandel, $15. But wine lovers may also appreciate 1970 Chateau La Gaffeliere, $68--less than its retail cost.
