Estancia, which won its third consecutive Southern Section golf title last month, will try for its first CIF-Southern California Golf Assn. championship today at Marbella Golf and Country Club in San Juan Capistrano.
Teams and individuals from the CIF’s Central, Los Angeles City, San Diego and Southern sections will start play at 7:30 a.m. The team competition will be over 18 holes. Estancia has finished fourth, third and second at the past three CIF-SCGA tournaments.
The top 12 individual competitors advance to play another 18 holes in the afternoon. Southern Section champion Tiger Woods of Western is a favorite in the individual competition, which was first won by Craig Stadler of La Jolla and won last year by Austin Maki of Estancia.
A girls’ individual tournament will start in the afternoon and will include local players such as Eunice Choi of Laguna Hills, Kellee Booth of Santa Margarita and Alicia Allison of Foothill.
