Nominee Took ‘Puffs’ on Marijuana

WASHINGTON — The White House said Wednesday night that Supreme Court nominee Clarence Thomas “took several puffs on a marijuana cigarette” in college and perhaps law school but called the matter “inconsequential.”
In a statement, the White House said the conservative appeals judge now “believes it was a mistake and never repeated it. We view this matter as inconsequential.”
“Judge Thomas fully disclosed this information on the FBI form and interview which were provided to the Senate Judiciary Committee in connection with the judge’s nomination to the court of appeals,” the statement said.
