California IN BRIEF : EARLIMART : Teacher Quits Over Anti-Abortion Film
- Share via
A teacher who showed his junior high math students an anti-abortion film has resigned under pressure, an official said. Lamar Hagan, a probationary instructor, was given the option of quitting or being fired and chose to quit, Earlimart School District Supt. Sandra Torchia said. “Whatever his personal beliefs, that’s OK, but you don’t bring them to class with you,” Torchia said. Hagan was unavailable for comment. The superintendent said she learned from some parents in the Tulare County community last week that Hagan showed students an anti-abortion movie called “Hard Truth” before school ended in June. That violated a district policy that parents will get a chance to examine any sex education materials before teachers use them.
