Bat-Swinging Brawl Erupts at Little League Game

Gang members may have been involved in a bat-swinging brawl at a Little League all-star game in Hacienda Heights that erupted after a scuffle between two opposing players, sheriff’s investigators said.
An umpire and team manager received hospital treatment for head injuries after the July 10 melee at Highlander Field. The players, in the Senior Little League level, ranged in age from 13 to 15.
Investigators would not say whether the gang members were players or spectators, but said they were part of a San Gabriel Valley street gang that is active in the area. Officials said Wednesday that while they had identified two suspects, no arrests had been made.
The brawl began after a catcher on one team argued with a batter on the other, then threw his mask at the batter, officials said.
