Travers Stakes Is Won by Corporate Report

SARATOGA SPRINGS, N.Y. — Corporate Report, unable to catch either Strike The Gold or Hansel in the Triple Crown races, beat both Saturday while leading all of the way in the Travers Stakes at Saratoga.
Hansel, the Preakness and Belmont Stakes winner who was the 9-5 second betting choice behind 8-5 Strike The Gold, pressed Corporate Report throughout, but came up a neck short in the 1 1/4-mile race and pulled up after finishing. Strike The Gold was not a factor.
Ted Hill, a veterinarian for the New York Racing Assn., said that Hansel suffered a “low tendon injury of the left front leg. He’s a little sore, but not terribly.”
Corporate Report was timed in 2:01 1/5. Fly So Free finished third, 2 1/2 lengths behind Hansel and three lengths ahead of Kentucky Derby winner Strike The Gold, who was followed by Lost Mountain and Tong Po.
