Covina : Dial-A-Ride Cutbacks

The city’s Dial-A-Ride program will no longer operate at night because of a lack of handicapped-accessible vehicles required by federal law.
The City Council on Tuesday voted 5 to 0 to scale back the 24-hour pickup service to comply with guidelines imposed by the 1990 Americans with Disabilities Act. The cutbacks will save the city $41,796.
The new hours will be Monday through Friday, 6:30 a.m. to 6:30 p.m. and Saturday and Sunday from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.
Meanwhile, the council unanimously agreed to pay Medi-Ride Inc. $15,153 more to offset higher service costs and wages. The company will get $209,292 a year, up from $194,139.
