Nation IN BRIEF : UTAH : North Ogden Awash From ‘Super Storm’

A two-day “super storm” that hammered North Ogden flooded many homes and caused mudslides. The weekend of rain also caused mudslides in rural areas, flooded parts of Salt Lake City and shut down the Utah State Fair for three hours. In Price, central Utah, extensive damage was reported to lawns, parking strips and streets. North Ogden, a community of 12,000 people north of Salt Lake City, received 8.4 inches of rain, breaking the 24-hour record of 6 inches set in 1970, National Weather Service meteorologist William Alder said. Volunteers were cleaning up streets and operating emergency services throughout North Ogden, and officials said more than 14,000 sandbags were filled within 12 hours.
