Comprehensive new allegations about sports doping in what was East Germany intensified pressure to oust still-active trainers who administered dangerous hormones to enhance athletes’ performance. The news weekly Der Spiegel, reporting from a book to be published next week, said researchers had identified 261 onetime East German athletes--some now winning medals for united Germany--who had taken part in doping.
