IRON JEFF: Jeff Montgomery of Huntington Beach says it isn’t easy to swim 2.4 miles in the ocean, bike 112 miles and run 26.2 miles, all in 17 hours. But he can’t wait to try this weekend in Hawaii, site of the Ironman Triathlon World Championship. . . . “It’s hard work, but very exciting,” he says. But Montgomery, 27, the only triathlon pro from Orange County competing in the event, says this may be his last. He’s switching next year to professional mountain bike racing.
