MEXICO CITY — A wave of cold, rain and snow has killed 61 people and forced 100,000 from their homes across Mexico, the newspaper Excelsior reported Tuesday.
High winds and rain also forced the closure of several major ports on the Gulf Coast, including Tampico and Veracruz, and blocked some key highways.
Officials in the Pacific Coast state of Nayarit declared an emergency and were gathering donations of food and other goods on Tuesday to aid an estimated 60,000 people driven from their homes by flooding rivers, according to government reports.
