Marquardt Chosen to Research New Weapon

Marquardt Manufacturing Inc. in Van Nuys said it has been chosen by the U. S. Army as one of three prime contractors to do research and development work on a proposed new weapon for the infantry.
The value of the award was not disclosed.
The weapon, called the multipurpose individual munition system, would be a shoulder-launched weapon that soldiers would use against relatively heavy targets--such as an infantry-fighting vehicle--that could not be defeated with a rifle.
Marquardt said the program is scheduled to begin in June.
