Teacher’s Bike Trip a Novel Fund-Raiser
John Lello, a teacher at Glendale Adventist Academy, will combine his love of bicycling with a fund-raising effort this summer as he rides from Canada to Mexico.
Lello, 25, is collecting per-mile sponsorships in the hopes of raising $15,000 for his school’s science department.
He and two friends, Peter Mum and Lucia Peterson, both of Walla Walla, Wash., plan to leave Vancouver, Canada, on June 14 and follow the Pacific Crest Biking Trail through the Cascades, Sierra Nevada and Southern California mountain ranges to Tijuana, a trip of about 2,500 miles.
Lello, who has been bicycling seriously for six years, said that the trip should take seven weeks.
