Tom McCluskey, who coached Tustin High to the 1991 State Division II championship, the Southern Section Division II-AA title and two Sea View League boys’ basketball titles during his five years at the school, was named as an assistant men’s basketball coach at Saddleback College on Thursday.
“We’re very excited about having Tom join our coaching staff,” Head Coach Bill Brummel said. “He knows the school, he knows the area, he knows our system and, as seen through his basketball career, he knows how to win.
McCluskey was 109-40 at Tustin and 49-26 in three seasons at Fontana. McCluskey played for Brummel at Saddleback in the 1979-80 and 1980-81 seasons, earning the Mission Conference’s most valuable player award as a sophomore.
Jeff Springfield, a 6-foot-7 forward who averaged 7.8 points and 5.1 rebounds for Saddleback this season, will play at Cal State Stanislaus next season.
Springfield is a Mission Viejo High graduate.
