SOUTHERN SECTION BASEBALL PLAYOFFS : SOFTBALL ROUNDUP : Ponce’s Three-Hitter, Two Hits Pace University Past Laguna Hills

Michelle Ponce pitched a three-hitter and helped her cause with two hits as University shut out Laguna Hills, 6-0, in a first-round Southern Section Division 3-A softball playoff game Friday at Laguna Hills.
University (19-10) will play the Chino, a 15-1 winner over Hemet Friday, in a second-round game Wednesday. Laguna Hills finished 16-8-1.
Ponce, a senior, improved to 15-5. She, Jenny Whiteley and Carrie Kirk each had two hits.
University put the game away in the sixth inning with four runs, which scored on three bunts--including a squeeze--and a single.
In other Division 3-A games:
Trabuco Hills 1, Tustin 0 (12)--Christy Lunceford scored from second on pitcher Brooke Betts’ throwing error with none out in the bottom of the 12th.
Brianne Burkman (11-5) pitched a four-hitter, striking out 11, for the host Mustangs (19-9), who will face Don Lugo in a second-round game Wednesday.
Woodbridge 25, Estancia 1--Alison Ward had three hits, drove in five runs and scored three times for the host Warriors (26-4).
Anne Marie Risquez homered, scored three times and drove in two runs. Deanna Black added three hits and drove in three runs for Woodbridge, which plays La Mirada Wednesday.
In Small Schools division:
Anza Hamilton 17, Liberty Christian 2--The Bobcats (18-2) scored in every inning but the sixth at TeWinkle Park in Costa Mesa.
