An elderly Ventura woman was killed in a freak automobile accident Thursday when her car accelerated and slammed into a building in Ventura as she tried to park the car, authorities said.
Eula Belle Hallett, 83, was trying to park her car at a shopping center in the 3400 block of Telegraph Road about 4:30 p.m. when she lost control of the vehicle, Ventura Police Sgt. John Turner said.
Hallett’s car sped up and crossed a parking lot median before crashing into the north wall of a drugstore, Turner said.
She probably died from traumatic chest injuries, but an autopsy will be performed today to confirm that, Deputy Coroner Jim Wingate said.
Hallett is survived by a daughter, Connie Morgan of Oak View.
An investigation of the cause of the accident will continue, Turner said.
