MISSION VIEJO : Fate of Swim Club, Facilities Up in Air
- Share via
The fate of the Nadadores swim club is still unsettled after a City Council meeting last week.
The council appointed a committee to study what the city should do with an Olympic-class swim complex on Marguerite Parkway that has served as the swim team’s home since the 1970s. The Nadadores have been searching for ways to finance the team since their major sponsor, the Mission Viejo Co., withdrew its support last year. The development firm also transferred ownership of the swim complex, along with three other recreation centers, to the city last year.
The club’s parent support group has said it would raise $460,000 annually to continue the swim program and is asking the city to pay about $270,000 each year to maintain the pools. The city would also have to spend about $1 million to renovate the swim complex.
Council members said they want the Nadadores to stay in Mission Viejo but are in conflict over how much to spend to keep them.
