Henshey’s Going Out of Business: Henshey’s, one of the region’s few remaining independent department stores and a fixture in Santa Monica since 1925, will shut its doors by the end of next month. Company representatives this week blamed the recession, a shrinking customer base and the relentless competition from big chains and mass-merchandising outlets. “It’s the end of an era in Santa Monica,” said Henshey’s personnel manager, Lorraine Heedrik, who has worked at the store for 19 years.
