Long Beach : Disney to Give City Dome That Covers Spruce Goose
- Share via
The Walt Disney Co. will give Long Beach the huge dome that covers the Spruce Goose, the world’s largest airplane, which is being dismantled and moved to a new museum in Oregon.
The city will take possession of the dome once the plane and historical exhibits have been removed, according to the agreement approved Monday by the city’s Board of Harbor Commissioners.
The dome is 415 feet in diameter at the base and 130 feet tall. Proposed uses for the dome include converting it to a card casino and incorporating it into a new cruise ship terminal.
By donating the structure, Disney will not have to pay to dismantle the dome and clear the property as required under its lease with the city.
