Ex-Boyfriend Held in Woman’s Slaying

A Cardiff woman was fatally wounded Wednesday morning in a Mira Mesa parking garage, and police arrested her former boyfriend about nine hours later in connection with the shooting, officers said.
Janis Lea Davis, 31, was shot in the stomach about 8 a.m. in an underground garage in the 5300 block of Mira Sorrento Place, San Diego police said. She identified her attacker as a former boyfriend, officers said.
Davis was rushed to Scripps Memorial Hospital in La Jolla, where she died at 11:21 a.m., according to the county medical examiner’s office.
About 4:50 p.m., at a Mid-City house in the 4500 block of Polk Avenue, officers arrested Thomas J. Heilman, 35, on suspicion of murder, police said. He was taken into custody without incident, officers said.
