Alhambra : Building Restrictions
In an effort to safeguard the character of single-family neighborhoods, the City Council on Monday unanimously approved a temporary suspension of the issuance of new building permits for second residences.
Beginning immediately, permits will be issued for no more than one residence per lot, even in areas where zoning allows two units. The restriction, which does not apply to projects that have already received building permits, will be in effect for 45 days to allow a review of possible downzoning.
The measure was proposed during the City Council’s joint study session with the Planning Commission on Aug. 31, when concern was expressed that the city’s single-residence neighborhoods are threatened by overdevelopment because of old zoning standards allowing second units.
