‘Sarafina!’ Squabble: “Sarafina!,” a new film starring Whoopi Goldberg as a South African teacher facing apartheid, has become the subject of a federal lawsuit in Dallas after being classified as “too violent for children under 16” by a city board. Responding to the suit, Buena Vista Pictures contends that Dallas’ motion picture classification ordinance violates the First Amendment, which guarantees free speech. An attorney for Buena Vista, while acknowledging the movie depicts violence, said it shows that those who inflict harm will be punished.
