Power Out for 3,000 on Balboa Peninsula

NEWPORT BEACH — A power failure affected more than 3,000 people along the Balboa Peninsula and some western parts of the city on Wednesday night, utility officials and police said. Electrical crews with Southern California Edison Co. were trying to find which underground conductors had failed about 8:40 p.m., said Pat Fedorko, a spokeswoman.
Conductors distribute electricity to homes from underground wires, Fedorko said. Crews might try to replace the failed conductors or reroute electricity, she said.
Police said several traffic lights were out. Fedorko said crews did not know when they would have power restored.
