New Pick of the Week : Peter Himmelman “Flown This Acid World” <i> Epic</i>

Four previous albums have established this insufficiently appreciated Minnesota native as a purveyor of insightful, strongly melodic pop-rock that carries moral and emotional weight. Hey, if you’re Bob Dylan’s son-in-law, as Himmelman is, you can’t be a slouch. “Flown This Acid World” (the title song is about transcendence, though not through hallucinogens) is loaded with directly emotional, simply-stated haymakers about feelings so fundamental that they readily hit home. The honed and varied rock attack of Himmelman’s veteran supporting band ensures that they do.
