Last year we told you about what are probably the best chili dogs in the county: the ones at Sammy’s No. 2, Beach Boulevard at Talbert Avenue, Huntington Beach. But a recent sampling makes it necessary to revise our opinion . . . now they’re better. Sammy’s is grilling rather than boiling the frankfurter nowadays, and if you ask whether that’s a big deal, you’ve never tried one. (Fans rebelled at Dodger Stadium when they stopped grilling the Dodger Dogs.) The down side is that the chili dogs are 50 cents more expensive ($2.50), but if you’re a chili dog aficionado, it’s worth it.
Sammy’s No. 2, 18011 Beach Blvd., Huntington Beach. Open Monday through Friday, 10 a.m. to 9 p.m., and Saturday, 11 a.m. to 8 p.m. (714) 847-7566.
