Although Northridge backup quarterback Coley Kyman played in only four series last Saturday, he had more success than starter Marty Fisher. Fisher completed five of 19 passes for 37 yards and three interceptions in CSUN’s 14-0 loss to Central Oklahoma. Kyman threw for 46 yards, completing four of 11 with one interception. Kyman injured his right shoulder (he throws right-handed), however, and his status for Saturday’s game at Idaho is uncertain.
Jess Garner, a junior from Oak Park High, ranks 14th in the NCAA Division II in kickoff returns with a 28.4 yard average. . . . Kicker Joe Jezulin is tied for 10th in field goals per game with a 1.0 average. . . . Northridge is ranked 30th in scoring defense. The Matadors are giving up only 15.5 points per game.
Volleyball: Senior middle blocker Nancy Nicholls and senior outside hitter Shelly Swalec of Northridge were named to the all-tournament team at the University of San Diego tournament that concluded Saturday. Nicholls had 38 kills, a .316 hitting percentage and 31 digs in three matches; Swalec had 24 kills, 32 digs and a .391 hitting percentage.
Soccer: Northridge (5-3) defeated Cal Lutheran, 1-0, Sunday at North Campus Stadium to extend its home unbeaten streak to 21 matches and its home winning streak to 18 in a row. The Matadors’ last loss at home was a 2-0 decision to UC Santa Barbara on Sept. 3, 1990.
