Hoover 24, Temple City 14--Hoover jumped to a 21-0 lead and hung on at Glendale High for its first win.
With Hoover leading, 21-14, with less than four minutes left, Hoover’s Mata Ubaldo intercepted Eric Britten’s pass at the Hoover 31. Six plays later, Sevak Shirvanian kicked a 29-yard field goal to seal the victory for Hoover (1-3).
Quarterback Nathan Dishington figured in all three of Hoover’s touchdowns. He completed 10 of 21 passes for 129 yards and a touchdown, and ran one and four yards for two more touchdowns.
The Tornadoes kept the ball on the ground in the second half, using up the clock by giving the ball to running back David Harvey, who finished with 118 yards in 20 carries.
