An 87-year-old Ventura woman has died from chest injuries suffered in a car accident during the weekend.
Lucia Gerardi, who was traveling west on Ralston Street in her Volkswagen at about 7:40 a.m. Sunday, was hit broadside by a pickup truck driven by an unidentified juvenile traveling south on Victoria Avenue.
Gerardi was taken by ambulance to Ventura County Medical Center, where she died later that day, said Craig Stevens, a coroner’s investigator.
The juvenile sustained no injuries in the accident.
The Ventura Police Department is investigating the accident, said Cpl. John Turner, but no citations have been issued.
Gerardi was not wearing a seat belt at the time of the accident.
“She would not have suffered these injuries if she was wearing her seat belt,” said Turner.
