Culture Crisis: Simultaneously announcing a fiscal crisis and a rescue plan, the San Diego Foundation for the Performing Arts said Tuesday it will cancel the rest of its 1992-93 season and close its doors if it can’t raise $200,000 in two weeks. In the hope of raising a fast $90,000 in ticket sales for the foundation, the Lyon Opera Ballet, the French company that last weekend performed “Cinderella” three times in San Diego to half-sold houses, will return for a benefit Tuesday at the San Diego Spreckels Theatre. The foundation will need to raise the remaining amount through donations.
